Mosaik #2 – Martha’s Chair
This chair I got from a friend who had nursed her four children in it. I gave it to my daughter, who was often with me in the workshop; so she had her own chair to sit in and enjoy herself.
Then, I got the idea to upholster it with Mosaik and turn it into a kind of showpiece. It illustrates a variety of upholstery techniques and was good to have when I had to explain the details of my work to customers.
Suddenly, someone wanted to buy the chair and I was in the midst of discussing the price when my daughter came in and informed us that it was her chair — ergo: not for sale.
The pieces of fabric are samples that I’d gathered during my apprenticeship and later in my own workshop.
